邓博士精通文学与科学,除了于英国伦敦大学学院获得心理学博士学位外,亦于伦敦大学亚非学院获得中国文学硕士学位,并于爱丁堡大学获得医学法律和伦理学硕士学位。早期她主要从事神经影像研究,曾在数学认知领域上取得突破。于在香港大学任教后,她离开了学术界,并在医疗保健界展示出她的领导才能。她是晚晴照顾及预设医疗指示的先导者,曾任善宁会总监,现任白普理宁养中心管治委员会委员及香港医院管理局咨询委员会委员。她的多学科背景为她的研究工作带来了独特的视野和触角,她对尖端科学技术以及医学进步对法律和法规的影响特别感兴趣。
